Finally... an Update
I know I owe you an update, especially for those of you who aren't on facebook. The dealer in Durant looked at our car and determined that it had a cracked head, which was caused by the overheating (he never looked at what caused the overheating). Our van had an aluminum engine block, which cannot handle high temperatures. He recommended that due to the age and mileage of our car, it wouldn't be worth it to fix it. Plus, he couldn't guarantee that the problem wouldn't recur. So, we decided to get what we could for salvage for the car. Marshall's aunt, however, thought that maybe her mechanic could put a rebuilt engine in it for a good price. After a couple of days in the hotel room waiting for an ice storm to thaw out, we hauled the car down to Ft. Worth (which in itself is a long story) only to here the same thing from her mechanic, the car was only worth scrap. Marshall had gone back to Tulsa to return my parents vehicle to them and get back to work. While waiting for the title of the car to get to Ft. Worth (so I could sell it for salvage), I rented a car and drove down to Houston to visit my sister. Truthfully, I just needed a vacation. We have had a peaceful time here and the kids have greatly enjoyed playing with their cousins. Tomorrow I am driving back to Ft Worth to return the rental car and sell our van. Marshall will come down to pick us up as he has a meeting in Oklahoma City on Thursday (about three hours away). So then we will decide what to do about having no car and no home (other than our parents' homes). That's the nutshell version. Of course, I have experienced a myriad of emotions this past week, and I need to find some time to process and share them, but for now you at least know where we are!
